About SCOUTreach
In 2018, Aragon Robotics began to focus heavily on reaching out to our community to bring STEM education to a diverse group of students. This led to the development of a holistic Outreach program that includes a variety of events in the local community, FIRST community, and our school community at Aragon. In Fall 2018, we decided we wanted to start working with young girls to expose them to STEM.
SCOUTreach was created to bring STEM education to communities typically underrepresented in the field, especially young girls. We started SCOUTreach in December 2018 with our first troop of 4th grade Girl Scouts. We wanted to work with them, but there was nothing available online or from other teams that was exactly like what we wanted to do, so we created our own curriculum. All the students and parents from our first workshop loved the program, and we had so much fun that we decided to host more events. Over the last year, we have held 20 events, working with about 300 students.
We realized that our curriculum was accessible and repeatable, and that we could grow this program by enabling more teams to host their own workshops. We rewrote the curriculum and made Lead Facilitator sheets that contain all our tips and tricks for hosting the workshops. We got a copyright on the materials in December 2019. Now, everything is available for other young leaders to host their own SCOUTreach workshops. We are so proud of what we have built, and we hope you are eager to work with us!
